Animal Medical Center of Baytown is a full service companion animal veterinary care facility. We provide your pet with the most comprehensive and up to date medical care available.
Our friendly and experienced staff is dedicated to treating your pet as we would our own. Animal Medical Center offers a wide range of health care and preventative medicine including:
WELLNESS EXAMS/ PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE
PREVENTION is becoming a very important aspect of all of our lives and this applies to our pets as well. Our beloved animal family members age more rapidly than humans, therefore, regular physical examinations and lab work are the best way to identify and prevent health issues before they become a problem later in life. Regularly scheduled examinations can identify problems as they arise and this allows you to be proactive in assuring your pet a longer healthier life. Preventing health issues is one of the most important things that you can do for your pet. Our preventive care program consists of annual and semi-annual physical examinations, vaccinations, heartworm testing, parasite testing, dental check up, diagnostic lab tests, and nutritional counseling. We help you keep up with your pet’s health needs by mailing reminders throughout the year.
SENIOR PET CARE
After 7 years of age our pets have a greater risk of developing health issues. It is extremely important to identify the early onset of diseases to prevent future organ damage or onset of diabetes. Our older friends also are more susceptible to dental disease and obesity. The Senior Wellness Screening Program consists of a physical exam, complete blood count, chemistry panel, thyroid test, urinalysis and fecal exam. If any health issues are identified as the result of the screening, recommendations will be made to prescribe medication and diet adjustments that in many cases prevent or delay major illnesses.
SURGERY
Animal Medical Center of Baytown offers a wide range of general surgical procedures as well as some orthopedic procedures. These are performed daily using the latest methods of surgical techniques and anesthesia. Surgeries are performed daily Monday-Friday during the morning hours. Usually your pet will arrive in the morning and go home that same afternoon. During and after surgery the patient is attended by experienced staff members and monitoring equipment. Written instructions that explain follow up care are provided when the patient is discharged from the hospital.
Many clients are concerned with anesthesia and the discomfort of surgery for their pets. Pre-surgical lab screening and Pain Management Therapy are options offered for surgery patients. The pre-surgical blood work is done in our lab and the results are known within a few minutes. The findings of this test will give indications of how well your pet will do under anesthesia and might determine if surgery should be postponed or canceled. Pain management therapy is available for your pet. It consists of a pre-surgical injection and medication sent home for the following several days. Our friendly office staff can give you more information on surgeries and the options offered.
DENTISTRY
We provide an up to date dental health care program for your pet. Regular dental exams are performed during annual and semi-annual check ups. Recommendations, that can eliminate tooth loss and infections, are made for problems noted during these visits. Vaccinations to help fight periodontal disease are available at our office.
A dental cleaning procedure may be recommended for your pet. This hospital procedure, performed under anesthesia, scales the tarter off and then polishes the teeth. Keeping your pet’s teeth and mouth healthy can add years to their life. Gum disease, infections and bacteria from the mouth can spread to organs in the body and this can lead to heart and kidney disease.
X-RAYS/ ULTRASOUNDS/ORTHOPEDIC EVALUATION
If your pet need diagnostics beyond an external exam, our office can perform x-rays and ultrasounds to image internal organs and bone structure. X-rays and ultrasounds can also provide information about litter size and delivery dates for pregnancy. Some x-rays and ultrasounds can be performed as office visits, however some require anesthesia and a hospital stay in order to obtain the best views.
If an orthopedic evaluation is needed due to some injury or condition, x-rays will show these conditions and provide the doctor with the information necessary to help you make a decision regarding your pet’s health.
We also work with the Orthopedic Foundation of America to check your dog for hip and elbow dysplasia. It is highly recommended that you have these areas checked as they are hereditary.
