VACCINATIONS/ PREVENTIVE CARE/ SENIOR PET CARE
PREVENTION is becoming a very important aspect of all of our lives and this applies to our pets as well. The most important thing you can do for your four legged partner other than providing food, water and shelter is to make sure that they are vaccinated against a variety of diseases and checked for parasites. See NEW PUPPY AND KITTEN CARE above for information on the schedule for vaccinations and worming. Puppies and adult dogs need to be protected against parvo, distemper, lepto, corona, parainfleuenza, hepatitus and kennel cough. Kittens and adult cats need to be protected against feline leukemia, feline aides and upper respiratory viruses. Heartworm prevention is a very easy thing to do. Beginning at 8 weeks of age dogs and cats can start preventative medication. This medication comes in pill form or liquid application once a month. Beginning at age 3 screening for diabetes and kidney disease should be done once a year changing after age 7 to a SENIOR HEALTH SCREEN that checks organ and kidney function. Early detection of diabetes and kidney problems can prolong your pet’s health by changing diet and introducing medications.
DENTAL HEALTH AND SURGICAL PROCEDURES
Don't forget about your pet's teeth. Our pets don't brush after every meal; therefore their teeth can get into pretty bad condition before long. This can lead to infections and tooth loss if it goes unchecked. Your veterinarian should evaluate dental health at each exam and check for decayed and infected teeth. DENTAL SCALING AND POLISHING can remove tarter and return the mouth to a fresh start. Brushing and special foods are recommended to prevent tooth loss and infections. DENTALS are done daily except Saturdays, your pet will come in in the morning and go home the same afternoon.
SPAYS/NEUTERS - spaying females and neutering males is recommended by all veterinarians. Not only does it prevent unwanted litters but spayed and neutered animals are less likely to have some health problems as they mature and age. Spays and neuters are performed daily except Saturdays. Your pet will come in in the morning and go home the same afternoon.
